Our Academy
We engage high school Latina students with an interest in public service while simultaneously building and supporting an amazing network of Latina professionals that supports the mission. The initiative was launched in November 2013 by Ana Cubas in partnership with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation. Based in Los Angeles, Latinas Academy is supported by an advisory board member comprised entirely of successful Latina women.
Our Program
Academy Day
The young women participate in comprehensive training, where they learn about Government 101, Women in Politics, and the fundamental aspects of running a campaign. They also engage with Latina role models during a Career Panel, gaining inspiration and insights. Additionally, they receive specialized training in
public speaking, campaign fundraising and team-building to prepare for real-world political involvement.
Field Trip
Following their training, the young women set out on an exciting field trip to Los AngelesCity Hall, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education. There, they have the incredible opportunity to meet with elected officials and Latinas in high-ranking positions, gaining valuable insights into their experiences and career paths. This immersive experience offers a unique chance for them to develop a deeper understanding of how various levels of government function, inspiring them to consider their own potential paths to leadership.
