About our Founder, President, and CEO, Ana Cubas

​

Ana Cubas is Founder, President, and CEO of  The Latina Public Service Academy.  Ana has over 20 years of experience working in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. She was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to the California Law Review Commission.

 

Ana is a Lecturer in the Political Science Department at California State University, Los Angeles, and an Adjunct Professor at East Los Angeles College.  She is also a Board Member-at-Large of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce (a statewide entity which advocates for the interests of small businesses).  In September 2019, she was appointed by California Governor Gavin Newsom to serve on the California Law Review Commission.

 

Ana has an MBA from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business.  Ana obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology with highest honors from U.C. Berkeley, and a Joint Masters’ Degree in Public Affairs and Urban and Regional Planning from Princeton University.  Ana began her public policy career working for the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C., and then for the California Legislative Analyst’s Office in Sacramento. Ana ran in 2013 for Los Angeles City Council District 9 and came within a few hundred votes of winning.  Most recently in March 2019, Ana was one of the top six candidates for the LAUSD Board of Education District 5 race.

Ana worked and served the City of Los Angeles and LAUSD in various roles.  Most recently, she was Chief of Staff, and prior to that Legislative Director to various LAUSD Board Member and LA City Councilmembers.  She started her work at LA City Hall working for the Chief Legislative Analyst’s Office as a Legislative Analyst.  Ana was appointed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to serve on the Los Angeles City Information Technology Commission and prior to that by Mayor Jim Hahn to serve on the City’s Human Relations Commission.  She was also appointed by Mayor Eric Garcetti in 2017 to the Convention Center and Tourism Development Commission.
